August 2nd - Our 5th Anniversary

O.k. so this blog is a little past due but I told you to stay tuned. I'll get around to it, even if it is 21 days after our anniversary. So we made it to our 5th anniversary and we still like each other. I can't believe it's already been five years. Today we were on a walk with the girls and I said, "Remember when we used to go on walks when it was just the two of us and now we have two kids." Crazy, that felt like just the other day. Anyway, I couldn't think of an amazing gift this year but thought I should since it has been 5 years. Sad to say but many gift giving days we both just say, "Let's not do gifts this time." We do it to save money and also because we don't always feel like making a big deal out of every special day. But this year was different. We didn't say, "Let's not do gifts, but we didn't say we were either." I thought and thought and finally it hit me. Steve has been wanting a flat screen t.v. since I first met him. He talks about how much he would love to watch football on a high definition flat screen t.v. So if any of you know me well, you will understand when I say I started a flat screen t.v. fund. I learned from reading a book called Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey that if you want something that you should save the money until you can afford to buy it with cash instead of using a credit card. Well, that's what I do. I have funds for everything. We have had the t.v. fund for awhile now and he'll put money he gets for his birthday and Christmas in there and when we have a little extra I'll add some to the fund. Well, with our tax refund money and the fund money we finally had enough for the t.v. but since I do the bills Steve wasn't quite aware that we had enough money for it yet. Well, I called my little brother Mikey, and asked if he could help me out. He offered to help, he went and picked up the t.v. and came to my house and we stayed up very late getting it up on the wall. Thanks Mikey, you are the bomb! Steve came home from a business trip the night of our anniversary. He walked in the door and we all acted as if we were just hanging out watching t.v. He was so surprised, he did not have any idea and didn't think I would ever have done that. (I'm not as good with surprises as he is.) He got it just in time for football season so he is excited. And did he get me anything? It doesn't matter. The t.v. was enough for the both of us probably for several more birthdays, Christmases, anniversaries, and Valentine's Days.His surprised look

2007 Walk to Cure Diabetes

We are at it again. It's time to raise money again for the Walk to Cure Diabetes. I sent out an email to most of you but I may have some readers that I don't have email addresses for so just in case you would like to help out read below. The email I sent went like this:

It's time again to raise money for the 2007 Walk to Cure Diabetes. Last year was our first year to do this and amazingly we raised around $3000.00. P.S. A little update: Olivia has been wearing an insulin pump for about one year now and it has been better than giving many shots a day. It's still not easy and we still have to poke her fingers to check her blood sugar and insert a needle every 2-3 days that stays in her body. Something funny she said to another little kid checking out her pump, "That's my cord (where her insulin goes from the pump into her body). It makes me feel better." She was trying to explain to him that wearing her pump makes her feel better. She doesn't quite understand it yet at 2 1/2 but she's starting to get it. Sometimes when she has low blood sugar she'll say "Momma, I'm low. I need a snack." or "Mom, I don't feel good." Please pray for her. She still has quite a few high and low blood sugars that make her feel bad. Please pray for Steve and I as we parent our 2 year old who not only is going through being a 2 year old but also may or may not be feeling well because of this disease. Her 1st Haircut

I'm a little behind on blogging about this but oh well, at least I'm getting to it. On July 31st Olivia got her 1st haircut by my hairdresser and friend Vicki. I was nervous she wasn't going to let Vicki cut her hair but she did great. She saw me get my haircut first and then she was hesitant about it and wasn't going to put the drape on for sure, but she finally sat there for Vicki after a little bribery. Vicki told her if she let her cut her hair and she was really good that she could have a treat at the end. It worked. Bribery, gotta love it. She kept looking in the mirror at herself while Vicki was cutting her hair and she would make faces and at one point she was singing. Hee hee. I saved some of her hair in an envelope. Wasn't that supposed to be baby hair?

She took her first steps!!!!!!!!!

She did it. Today was the day. Audrey Elizabeth Lee took her first two steps. She has been wanting to so bad but just wasn't brave enough until today. I was just about ready to put her to bed and she just stood up in the middle of her bedroom floor and just looked at Olivia and I. I said, "Come on honey, you can do it." And she stepped forward, then fell. I stood her up again and she took two more steps then fell. She has been wanting to walk all over the place while holding my fingers all the day long. I know you are supposed to cherish the moment and not wish for the them to grow up too fast but she is wearing me out with the walking her around thing. I don't want her to grow up too fast but I do want her to start walking so that she will be less frustrated and my back will stop hurting from bending over to hold her hands while walking. It won't be long now before she has got it down.
